This adoption was inspired by a true story in my country. A daughter left her cat to her parents to care while she married far away from home. Her dad then took the cat, without asking her consent, out for a "meal" with his drinking buddies. They even posted pictures of how the meal was prepared on social media. The daughter got home, and after discovery of the cat's absense, she furiously called out her dad and the others on her Facebook. Her dad never took on the blame, instead saying his daughter was a disgrace.
